"The prayer of a righteous man," says James, "is powerful and effective" (Jms. 5:16). To that end, I covet your prayers for my trip. Below, I'll periodically list some prayer requests for myself, my team, and the nation of Indonesia.
For our team:
- That we would be unified in Christ. Jesus said that this would be his witness to the world (Jn. 17:23).
- That God would provide the financial means for every team member to go (1 Ch. 29:14).
- That God would be conditioning and fashioning each of our hearts in imitation of his own heart for the lost. (1 Tim. 2:4—holy smokes! Incredible verse!)
For Whitworth:
- For missions on campus! Let it grow, God, let it grow!
- Over these past two years, God has been growing in me a burden to see Whitworth become a place of even deeper biblical discipleship. Pray that God would bring this to reality and that I would steward this burden in a Spirit-led way.
Praises:
- For sustained church growth over the past 50 years.
- For the vibrant witness of many committed Christians.
- For the recent transition to democracy in the late '90s that has reduced the excesses of the military and extreme Islamists.
- For increased openness to the gospel in the wake of natural disasters and Islamic extremism.
Prayers:
- That the gospel would make inroads despite Indonesia's vast diversity (750 people groups, 722 languages!).
- That Indonesia's Muslims would come to Christ amid violent tension between extremists and nominal adherents.
- For growth, discipleship, vision, and protection for the indigenous Indonesian church amid the increasing threat of persecution and rising Islamic extremists.
- For continued unity of the Indonesian church. See this crazy article for more on that score...
